Lighthouse progress, Aug. 10-14, 2009

Workers with J.O. Collins Contracting, working under cloudy skies and between intermittent rainfall on Aug. 10, began erecting scaffolding at the Biloxi Lighthouse as part of the six-month, $400,000 project to restore the storm-ravaged Biloxi landmark. Two days later, on Aug. 12, workers had encircled the lighthouse with scaffolding and used a cherry picker to remove the weather vane from atop the 63-foot tall structure. By the afternoon of Aug. 14, workers had secured scaffolding high enough to eclipse the lighthouse cupola and planned to begin installing a tarp to cover the scaffolding on Monday.
