Biloxi Main Street continues its successful “Drive-in Movie” series on the Biloxi Town Green this evening with presentation of “The Lego Movie.”
Grab a lawn chair or blanket and be a part of the fun, beginning at 6 p.m. with door prizes, contests and plenty of family fun, including a giant water slide. The movie begins at dark. Admission is one can or bag of food for the Humane Society of South Mississippi.
The drive-in movie is sponsored by Beau Rivage Resort & Casino and the city, in conjunction with Parks and Recreation Month.
Meantime, there’s “Sunset Boulevard” tonight, Saturday and Sunday at the Saenger Theater, Sinbad (who once said, “Who is the ‘Foo-Foo’ guy who wants to be mayor?”) at the IP, “Yaye” at the Beau, and “Katrina +10” continuing at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art.

Two downtown projects back in spotlight
Two post-Katrina proposals – transforming the former Santa Maria retirement home into a luxury hotel, and constructing a multi-million-dollar, mixed-use development on Main Street across from the U.S. Post Office – are back in discussion, and Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich says he’s encouraged.
“We’re certainly appreciative any time a significant development is proposed in Biloxi, especially when it involves a company with a proven track record,” Gilich said of the two proposals, which will be presented to the city’s Development Review Committee next week.
“The Barrington Group did a fabulous job with the White House Hotel, and we have every reason to believe they can deliver on these new development proposals,” the mayor added. “But let’s remember that these are proposals at this point. They’re trying to get a feel for what the City wants and we’re anxious to understand their vision and how it can be assimilated into ours.”

Biloxi Public Schools takes the hassle out of registration
It’s a foregone conclusion for many: Another year of registration. Another year of stress. Long, slow-moving lines, plenty of forms to fill out, power bills and driver’s licenses to prove residency, and did we say long, slow-moving lines? And the guy in front of us usually can’t find all of his paperwork.
Biloxi Public Schools worked for years to make it an easier process. Registration days were staggered. Registration hours were expanded. Forms could be downloaded from the website. Still, the lines.
Now, that’s all about to change. This year, registration at Biloxi Public Schools can be accomplished, for the most part, from the convenience of your home, on your schedule.

U.S. 90 work, Part 1: Motorists traveling U.S. 90 next week will see about two dozen city workers cleaning medians north and south of the highway, beginning early Monday. The Parks & Recreation and Public Works laborers will begin cleaning medians on 90 in east Biloxi and will work westward over several days. It’s all part of Mayor’s Gilich’s cleaner-Biloxi initiative.
U.S. 90 work, Part II: Also beginning Monday, Yates Construction workers will begin pouring concrete medians and islands on U.S. 90 between Caillavet Street and I-110 to prepare the entrance to the Beau Rivage employee parking garage, at the south end of the MGM Park site.
