RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE BILOXI POLICE DEPARTMENT TO ACCEPT GRANT MONIES FROM MS OFFICE OF HOMELAND SECURITY AND TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL BUDGET TO THE CURRENT FISCAL YEAR TO PROVIDE APPROPRIATION FOR EXPENDITURE OF GRANT RESOURCES

            WHEREAS, the Biloxi Police Department is seeking approval to accept a MS Office of Homeland Security grant in the amount of $50,000 that will be used to support and/or enhance terrorism response capabilities, and

            WHEREAS, the Biloxi Police Department plans to purchase equipment for the bomb squad and to provide additional training to certified bomb technicians; and,

            WHEREAS, the grant amount is $50,000 for which there are no matching funds required by the city and the MS Office of Homeland Security will account for up to 100 percent of the total cost of the project; and,

            WHEREAS Director Miller has been advised of the grant and supports efforts to acquire such funding;

            NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI, THAT:

            Section 1. The Mayor, Municipal Clerk and appropriate, designated staff are, hereby, authorized to execute the necessary documents witnessing the City’s acceptance of the grant terms and conditions.

            Section 2. The Mayor, Municipal Clerk and appropriate, designated staff, hereby, authorize the Biloxi Police Department to seek grant funding as requested and described above.

            Section 3.  The Municipal Budget of the City of Biloxi for the fiscal year to end September 30, 2010 is hereby amended to add $50,000 of expenditure appropriation in the following accounts of the Public Safety Department:
