Biloxi to have tripleheader of fireworks

The long Fourth of July weekend in Biloxi will feature three fireworks shows, one on Saturday night over Back Bay and two on July 4th itself, the annual front beach fireworks and a post-game extravaganza at MGM Park.

The Back Bay and front beach fireworks will both begin at 9 p.m. on their respective nights, while the MGM Park show will begin after the minor league baseball game between the Biloxi Shuckers and Pensacola Blue Wahoos. The 6:35 p.m. game will be the first of a five game homestand with the Wahoos.

“Between the Back Bay fireworks show on Saturday, the front-beach on Tuesday with the fireworks-free zone on east beach, and the Shuckers show that same night, we should have a great weekend,” Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich said. “We want everyone to get out and enjoy themselves and have a fun and safe Fourth weekend.”

The Back Bay fireworks show on Saturday will begin at 9 p.m. and will be fired over the waters between the Scarlet Pearl and IP casinos.

Those attending Biloxi’s annual Fourth of July fireworks will again be able to enjoy a fireworks-free zone from Oak Street to the Biloxi Small Craft Harbor.

The mile-long stretch of beachfront – part of eight miles of beachfront in Biloxi  – will be exclusively for watching the city fireworks show, which begins at 9 p.m. on July 4. The show, which the organizing Boom-Boom Committee says is scheduled to run for about 25 minutes, will be fired from a barge near Deer Island.  Best viewing is from the Biloxi Lighthouse eastward to the Biloxi Bay Bridge and the best listening is on Bob 105.9.

The Shuckers fireworks show, put on by Pyro Shows, a 48-year-old company based out of LaFollette, Tenn., will include 1000 pounds of explosives and ten miles of wires for the choreographed show.

The show will cap a game-long spectacle at MGM Park.

The Shuckers, along with the other 159 teams in Minor League Baseball, will be wearing special red, white and blue “Stars & Stripes” caps designed by New Era Cap Company. 100 percent of sales proceeds from the special caps will benefit Welcome Back Veterans, an organization dedicated to addressing the needs of returning veterans and their families.

The 2017 Stars & Stripes Caps, a heather blue Shuckers cap with a red bill, a primary Biloxi “B” rendered in white and red, and an interior sweatband with an American flag design, will be exclusively available in the Shuckers Shop at MGM Park when gates open on July 4th!

The homestand against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos will continue for the next five days and include a special Military appreciation game with fireworks again after the Saturday, July 8 game.

In addition to wearing their “Stars & Stripes” caps on July 4th at MGM Park, the Shuckers will don the red, white and blue in their series finale at Birmingham on July 3rd and their homestand finale and Military Appreciation Game against the Blue Wahoos on July 8.

The Shuckers won’t be the only people at MGM Park getting in on the act. For the first time, Minor League Baseball umpires will join the players in wearing red, white and blue caps during games from July 1 to 4.

Tickets for the games can be purchased in advance at any Ticketmaster outlet, at biloxishuckers.com or at the MGM Park office box.
