Parents: Sign up your children for the Christmas walking parade

Parades are the big news this week, with the salute to veterans and the Veterans Day parade and festival in downtown Biloxi on Saturday, but attention is already turning to Christmas parades, too.

Students in Biloxi Public Schools on Wednesday will be receiving registration forms for the annual Christmas on the Water Children’s Walking Parade, which takes place Friday, Dec. 1 in downtown Biloxi.

Youngsters in grades K-4 are invited to dress in holiday colors and garb and participate in the annual parade, which features hay-filled wagons and marchers, and makes its way through downtown Biloxi to the Town Green for the lighting of the Town Green.

Santa and Edgewater Mall: There’s also going to be a parade of sorts – a parade of children and families – Saturday morning at Edgewater Mall when Santa Claus will magically appear at 10 a.m. at the stage near Dillard’s.

And for those who wonder if Santa is arriving earlier and earlier each year, not so, says Edgewater Mall Manager Terry Powell. “Typically, Santa has been arriving the first weekend in November, but we wanted to make sure we had the mall decked out in its Christmas best to greet him on Saturday morning.”

Santa will be at the mall from Nov. 11 through Dec. 24, and next weekend, on Nov. 18 and 19, Santa will be joined by a trio of actual reindeer – two female reindeer and a baby reindeer – for professional photos, with packages beginning at $17.

Said Powell: “It’s a family tradition for photos with Santa at Edgewater Mall, but this year we’re going to have some of his ‘workhorses’ drop by for a couple days, too.”
