Mutts for Pink at Hiller Park Saturday

Dogs of all sorts – from AKC-registered pure breeds to the Heinz 57 variety – can prance, run, dress up or just be silly for the second annual Mutts For Pink fundraiser from 9 a.m. to noon on the grass area near the splash pad at Hiller Park.

The fundraiser, supporting the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, includes a 1-mile fun run for dogs and humans, a costume contest, an agility course, dog-training sessions and contests for the cutest and ugliest dog, and silly or serious dog tricks.

“We will have the award ceremonies after each event,” organizer John Fitzhugh said.  “We will also have a costume photo booth for both people and dogs, which is new this year.”

Hamburgers, hot dogs and refreshments will be for sale during the event, and a raffle will be conducted for prizes, which Fitzhugh admiutted were mostly dog-themed or alcohol-related.

The Singer River and Mobile kennel clubs will also be on site with a show dog and mutt dog show and obstacle course.

Entry fee is $5 per event.
