Firefighters meet increase in emergency medical calls

Last week in his State of the City, Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich reported on the increased number of medical calls received by the Biloxi Fire Department and how this increase is being by firefighers.

“Last year the department responded to 6,928 calls for service in 2016, which included a 10 percent increase in emergency medical calls,” Gilich said in the State of the City presentation. “This increase was met by our firefighters by either completing or renewing certification as Emergency Medical Technicians.”

The department currently has 43 certified EMTs.

Said Gilich: “Safety is vitally important when you consider the growth being seen everywhere in Biloxi.”
