Dredging work moves a step closer

Boat owners who use the boat launch at Hiller Park have complained for years about the need for dredging of the canal near the boat launch, and now it appears a city project is on track for deepening of that area and other sites along the Biloxi waterfront.

Christy LeBatard, the city’s director of engineering, reports that bids will be opened on April 26 for the dredging at, in order of priority, Sherman Canaan Back Bay Fishing Dock, Hiller Park canal, Mercedes-Walda canal, North Haven-Holly Hills canal, Point Cadet Marina, Goosepoint-Lakeview-Bay Point canal and Sunrise canal.

One warning, according to LeBatard: “Much of the work will depend on the bids and how far we can stretch the $645,000 in Tidelands funds. We don’t have a date on when dredging will begin, but we are closer today than we have ever been. We’ll know more after we open and review the bids.”
