Biloxi, IP hosts fire chiefs training conference

Nearly 100 fire training professionals from across the state are in town this week for the 2017 Training Chiefs Conference.

The Biloxi Fire Department is hosting the two day event that began this morning at the IP Casino Resort.

“We had a great turn out this morning at the welcome and opening ceremony,” Biloxi Fire Chief Joe Boney said.  “I even challenged the training professionals to produce individuals who are experts in their field with knowledge and experience.”

The annual conference, taking place through Thursday, includes presentations on various topics and concerns fire training professionals throughout the state deal with.

“This conference gives personnel involved with or responsible for fire training a chance to come together and discuss common training concerns and new information.” Biloxi Fire Deputy Chief John Jennings said who is also presenting a session during the conference titled “Getting started as a new training chief/officer.”

As the hosting city, the Biloxi Fire Department has assisted with the diverse program and scheduled two social networking events to showcase Biloxi and some of its history.

On Tuesday night, the department held a welcome networking social and dinner at the West End Hose Co. No.3 Fire Museum on Howard Avenue were the museum board members cooked “gourmet” hotdogs and hamburgers, and tonight, attendees will get to take part in a shrimp boil and social networking experience overlooking the Biloxi Bay at the Point Cadet Pavilion.

Added Jennings: “This conference brings together a lot of expertise and we are excited to be part of it but we also want to show off our beautiful Biloxi.”
