Walmart plans reviewed; other development news

The economic development report for this week will actually cover the past two week period. The building plans review for the New Walmart Neighborhood Market on Popp’s Ferry Road has been completed. The contractor is hoping to start the project before the end of this month, with a projected completion date of December 18 of this year.

In other news, construction is continuing on the MGM Park, Casino Magic, Hyatt Place Hotel, Arbor Landing Apartments, Boomtown Casino RV Park, Baja Beach Biloxi Restaurant, Kelly’s Sports Bar & Grill, Shaggy’s Restaurant, Jimmy John’s Restaurant, Sumo Japanese  Steakhouse, Saint Michael’s New Life Parish Center, Tulane University, and a number of single family subdivisions.

During this period, 87 building permits were issued with a valuation of $3.8 Million Dollars. Permits were issued for a new office building for Memorial Hospital on Tommy Munro Drive, renovations for the Flamingo Hotel Office Building on Beach Boulevard, and 6 new single family houses. Our year to date valuation is $16.6 Million Dollars ahead of last year at this time.

Also this week, Artist Marty Wilson has begun the background sketching for the mural for the Reef Restaurant.
