Oaklawn repairs to begin Tuesday morning

Permanent repairs to a drainage line on Oaklawn Road are scheduled to begin Tuesday morning, and Public Works Director Richard Sullivan hopes the road could be re-opened to traffic as early as Wednesday morning.

City crews were forced to close a section of Oaklawn Drive, the primary access road into Eagle Point, on Friday evening as a result of a collapsed drainage line between a city fire station and Shorecrest Drive. The road had been temporarily re-opened Friday before midnight, but was closed again today after heavy rainfall.

Sullivan said the collapsed drainage line, which is 3 feet in diamater, will be one of three replaced during the work. “All are aging pipes,” Sullivan said, “so we figured we’d go ahead and replace all of them while we’re in there.”

Motorists seeking access into Eagle Point must detour using Woolmarket Road.
