Mayor's Awareness Committee for Citizens with Disabilities

Who... We are citizens of the Gulf Coast community who have disabilities or are interested in issues involving disabilities.

Why... The committee was formed in 1986 under an executive order and approved by the Biloxi City Council in conjunction with other Mayor's Awareness Committees throughout the nation through an initiative from the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities.

What...

• To inform the public of social, cultural, physical, and architectual barriers preventing people with disabilities from participating fully in their community.
• To inform the disabled community on issues relating to legislation, job opportunities, and resources.
• To assist Gulf Coast businesses in complying with the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act).
• To serve as a strong advocacy group protecting the rights of all persons with disabilities.

Where & When... The committee meets in the auditorium of the Martin luther King building, 676 Washington Loop, Biloxi, on the second Monday of each month at 3:30 p.m. There are no dues for membership and you do not have to reside in Biloxi to belong.
