Councilmember George Lawrence, the representative for east Biloxi, was resting comfortably this afternoon after undergoing surgery this morning to have a pacemaker implanted.
Lawrence, the fifth-term councilmember who is a fixture at city functions and festivals, collapsed Saturday night while dancing at a party at the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum.
He was transported to the hospital, and surgeons scheduled an operation for this morning to implant the pacemaker.
Lawrence is expected to make a full recovery and could be released from the hospital as early as Tuesday.
Said Biloxi Chief Administrative Officer David Nichols: “We expect to see George back on the dance floor in short order.”
