Gilich seeks compromise on BP legal fees

Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich has called a special meeting of the Biloxi City Council for Thursday at 4 p.m. to ask the City Council to rescind a 2012 contract that would pay 20 percent in legal fees from a $5.9 million BP claim the city and Biloxi Public School District expect to receive.

In his resolution being presented to the council, Gilich said he believes a $1.18 million fee to the law firm Page, Mannino Peresich & McDermott would be unreasonable and not in the best interests of the city or the school district

The contract was approved in 2012, before Gilich and five of the current City Councilmembers were elected.

Instead, Gilich asks councilmembers for permission for he and City Attorney Gerald Blessey to invite the law firm to negotiate a reasonable fee. Gilich’s resolution also invites representatives of the school district to participate in the negotiations.
