We’re casting a wide net in Biloxi

Lopez, Gorenflo, Dukate, Cruso, Mavar, Williams, Sekul, Gollott. They're only a few of the hundreds of names of proud families of the Biloxi seafood industry -- past, present and future.

Today, we’re returning the legion of names -- the who's who of the seafood capital of the world -- to the base of the Golden Fisherman statue. It's all part of a community effort to spruce up the fisherman's new location at Point Cadet, near Point Cadet Plaza.

We want this to be a fitting tribute to those who helped build Biloxi’s legendary seafood industry and are continuing to help keep it an important part of our economy – and a way of life here in Biloxi.

But we need your help.

On this page is a link to a list of names of Biloxi families associated with the seafood industry. It’s a list that’s been collected over the years, and we want to update it. I’d like you to look over that list.

Is anyone missing? If you know of a name that's not on this list and should be included, we want to hear from you. Jot down the name and why it should be added to the list. Include your own name and contact info, too. You can send me a postcard in care of Mayor A.J. Holloway, City of Biloxi, P.O. Box 429, Biloxi, MS 39533-0429. Or you can fax it to me (435-6129) or e-mail me (mayor@biloxi.ms.us).

The seafood industry always has and always will play an important role in Biloxi, so let's cast a wide net and make this a landmark that we can all be proud of. Let's make it one for the ages.
