Downtown to turn into a sea of red Saturday

“We think the bad weather will be behind us, and we’re going to have a sea of red in downtown Biloxi Saturday morning,” Biloxi Public Schools chief Arthur McMillan says of the second annual Biloxi 5K Run and 1-mile trek. “We’re looking forward to a great event. We’re reminding people to mark their calendars and show their school pride.”

Nearly a thousand runners and walkers took part in last year’s inaugural 5K and 1-mile run. This year’s event will feature a stage and live entertainment on the lawn across from City Hall, where the races will begin and end.

“We’re asking people to bring their lawn chairs or blankets and plan on having fun,” McMillan says. “We’ll have face painting, bounce houses and other activities for families to enjoy.”

Those who have not registered can do so online now or Saturday morning at 8 in front of City Hall. Parking is available behind City Hall or in nearby public parking lots.

“We expect to see a good mix of involvement from students, parents and staff, and the community in general,” McMillan says. “We have a number of things to celebrate in Biloxi Public Schools – our outstanding classroom achivements, our award-winning teachers and staff – and this is a chance to build on our success.

“The big things we’re telling people right now is to wear red, come down and register if you haven’t done so already, be there at 8 a.m., and plan on having a great time.”
