Short-term rental, fireworks at issue

By Jerry Creel, Community Development Director

This week in economic development, the city council voted to approve an application for conditional use, for short term rental in the “Downtown Zoned District”, for a townhome located at 133 Reynoir Street. This will allow the owners to rent the townhome for periods of less than 30 days. In other action, the council voted to table 2 applications for conditional use for temporary seasonal fireworks stands. The applications were tabled “subject to call” while the council considers whether additional restrictions should be added to the existing ordinance.

Also this week, the Biloxi Planning Commission voted to recommend approval for zoning change, and conditional use applications for a proposed 290 lot high end motor coach RV park to be located on 40 acres at 11189 Old Highway 15. The request will now go before the city council for final consideration.

The administration met with representatives of the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) this week to discuss the next steps in the implementation process for the Bay View Boulevard extension. The $5 Million Dollar EDHP grant would fund the extension of Bay View Boulevard to 5th Street.

Lastly this week, this department issued 91 building permits for a total construction valuation of $10.2 million dollars.
