RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CONTRACT WITH

WOOLMARKET LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL

 

WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 21-17-5, Mississippi Code of 1972, the City of Biloxi is authorized to expend funds for recreational purposes for the benefit of its citizens as a matter of general municipal purpose, function, or affair; and

WHEREAS, the Woolmarket Little League Baseball is an organization that provides recreational opportunities, services, and programs for children that extend beyond the time and scope of other related recreational opportunities offered by the City; and

WHEREAS, it is necessary to authorize approval to the Woolmarket Little League Baseball in the amount of $6,045.00 under the provisions of Mississippi Code Section 21-17-5; and

WHEREAS, funds are budgeted and are available in the Parks and Recreation Department 2009-2010 Operating Budget (Line item 01433-6649), for expenditures for operation of the league; and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City of Biloxi to contract with the Woolmarket Little League Baseball to provide those additional recreational opportunities through the extended 2010  season and through preparation for the following season, and

WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of Cheryl Bell, Acting Director of Parks and Recreation, to authorize expenditures for that purpose,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI, AS FOLLOWS:

          Section 1:  The findings, conclusions, and statements of fact contained in the preamble are hereby adopted, ratified, and incorporated herein. 

         Section 2:  The Mayor and Municipal Clerk are hereby authorized and directed to execute the Contract in substantially the same form as the document attached hereto as Exhibit “A”.  Upon execution of said contract by the Woolmarket Little League Baseball  (which shall constitute receipt of written confirmation of the acceptance of the contractual duties of providing recreational opportunities, services, and programs through the extended 2010 season), the amount of $6,045.00  shall be paid to the Woolmarket Little League Baseball.
