Little League champs want to see red

Parents of players on the state champion Biloxi Little League 12-year old Major League All-Star team are asking Biloxi residents and businesses to wear red on Friday, the day the team opens play at the Southwest Regional Tournament in Waco, Texas.

The Biloxi team’s first game will be Friday at 5 p.m. against Texas West. The game will be broadcast live on News Radio 104.9.FM. The station will also carry the Biloxi team in games on Sunday and Monday at 1 p.m.

If the team wins the Southwest Regional title, it will be headed to Williamsport, PA to compete in the Little League World Series scheduled later in August.

The Biloxi team posted a 7-0 record, winning the District Two tournament recently in D’Iberville and more recently defeated a Meridian team in a best-of-three series to become the 2009 Mississippi Little League State Champions.

The team is coached by Scotty Berkowitz and George Johnson. Team members are Mason Berkowitz, Austin Creel, Eddie Rey Garza, Trent Gill, Blake Johnson, John Paul (J.P.) McLaughlin, Darrell Montiforte, Jordan Rackley, Tyler Roch, Jordan Roberts and Jack Schmidt.
