Main Street to host fete for Side Porch Gallery

Biloxi Main Street will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony this afternoon from 5 to 7 for The Side Porch Gallery, the latest business to open in the burgeoning Rue Magnolia Art District in downtown Biloxi.

Housed in the law office of Chip Donovan, The Side Porch Gallery & Gifts will offer local artwork and unique gift items. It is owned by Lisa Cumbest Michiels.

Mobs of cash could turn up downtown Biloxi on Friday

Main Street is asking visitors to downtown to join a Cash Mob on Friday to support downtown businesses.

What's a Cash Mob? "A Cash Mob," says Main Street director Kay Miller, "is all of us, anyone who cares about small business and Main Street America. Essentially it's just another way of celebrating our small businesses and what they do for our communities." Miller and the members of Main Street are asking shoppers and diners to plan to come to downtown Biloxi on Friday and spend $20.

Main Street also will be hosting its monthly special gathering, Finally Friday, at two locations, from 5 to 8: at Margaret Tremmell Peresich Park, where where Rhythm & Rain will perform, and at French Kiss Pastries, Davis & Sax will appear.

The Cash Mob idea "is perfect for Main Streets nationwide, the champions of supporting small businesses and rallying community members," Miller said, noting the trend's mantra is 'We each do a little, we ALL do a lot.'"
