Ten events are on the books for the Biloxi Civic Center, and Parks and Recreation Director Sherry Bell says interest is growing with the building's dedication last week and this week's hugely successful Biloxi Bay Chamber business expo.
"We're getting more and more people calling about looking at the center," Bell said, "and the chamber loved the idea of being able to have the large room set up to hold two events simultaneously, an exhibit area and an area for a luncheon."
More than 400 people were in the civic center throughout the day for the business expo Thursday, and several hundred attended the dedication last week.
The center has a 42,000-square-foot ballroom, surrounded by a stage, mezzanine, dressing rooms, a green room and a state of the art audio visual system designed to
make the facility an ideal venue for recitals, concerts and, of course,
Mardi Gras balls. Ceilings in the facility are as high as 29½ feet in some areas.
The ballroom itself can accommodate as many 2,500 people, and another 425 can view from the second floor balcony.
The ballroom can be configured into four separate meeting rooms, and smaller meeting rooms are situated on the north side of the center, and the courtyard between the center and the Biloxi Public Library may also be rented.
Rates range from $100 to $2,500, depending on space required, and an additional fee is assessed if the city is required to set up for the event.
