City seeks youngsters for Start Smart program

The Parks & Recreation Department has 20 openings for a free program designed to help prepare youngsters to participate in soccer.

Registration for the Start Smart Soccer Program begins Monday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will continue weekdays at the Recreation office, 377 Hiller Drive, until the participant limit is reached.

The program is open to all children ages 3 to 5 and their parents or a responsible adult and teaches children basic soccer skills such as kicking, passing and trapping.

Sessions begin on Tuesday, Oct. 18 and continue for five following Tuesdays, ending on Nov. 22.  Each session will be conducted from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Donal Snyder Community Center, 2520 Pass Road.

Participation is free for Biloxi residents and $25 for non-Biloxi residents.

Efficiency Program: Mississippi Power is offering home energy surveys and installation of energy-saving measures at no cost to customers in Biloxi. To inform those interested, Mississippi Power is holding a meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the VFW on Veterans Avenue.  To see the flyer, click here.

Senior Bash: The Parks & Recreation Department will hold its annual Rock and Roll Senior Bash on Friday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Donal Snyder Community Center.  The free affair is open to adults age 55 and older.  To see the flyer, click here.

Fall dance: The Parks & Recreation Department will hold a “Cruise into Fall Special Needs Dance” on Friday evening at the Donal Snyder Community Center from 6 to 9.  Admission is free and the event is open to all ages with physical and mental disabilities.  To see the flyer, click here.
