City of Biloxi Celebrates Disability Awareness Month

(Biloxi, MS) – The City of Biloxi joins in on the celebration of Disability Awareness Month in October with the 2009 Mayor’s Disability Awareness Health Fair.

The City of Biloxi Parks and Recreation Department will team up the Edgewater Mall, Disability Connection, Circle of Friends and Nursing Management Inc. on Saturday, October 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Edgewater Mall to hold a fun filled and informational health fair for people with disabilities.

The Health Fair will be saturated with health screenings, demonstrations, testings, games such as the Wheelchair Obstacle Course Competition and the Mayor’s Walk in My Shoes. Entertainment will be provided by local bands and disability group homes.

October has been designated by congress as Disability Employment Awareness Month. Through national and local activities, the public’s awareness of the contributions and skills of Americans with disabilities is increased.
