Chamber, school board endorse stadium initiative

The Biloxi School Board has joined a growing number of organizations who have voted to endorse the construction of a baseball stadium in downtown Biloxi.

The school board resolution, in a resolution passed this week, pointed out the $15 million pledged by Gov. Phil Bryant and the availability of a Double A minor league baseball team may not again be available, and the project itself and the development it may spur would increase the city’s property tax base, which benefits the Biloxi Public Schools.

Said School Board Presidnt Allison Buchanan: “The board passed the resolution because we believe the stadium project and surrounding economic development will generate increased revenue for the Biloxi Public School district and provide a new form of family entertainment for Biloxi students and their families.”
