All registered voters may vote in Ward 3, 4 and 6 runoffs

All registered voters in Wards 3, 4 and 6 will be able to vote in the May 21 runoffs in those respective wards, regardless of whether they voted Tuesday.

The Mississippi Secretary of State’s office had initially advised the city that only voters who voted Tuesday could vote on May 21. But after the position was published in a Bmail Thursday, candidates raised questions, and the secretary of state’s office corrected its position.

“I was mistaken,” the assistant secretary of state for elections said in an email this morning. “I’m sorry for any confusion.”

The information impacts three runoffs in Biloxi, all Republican primaries and in wards where no Democratic primaries were held.

Those races are:

— In Ward 3, Dixie Newman and Joy Barhanovich Tucei will compete for the Republican nomination.

— In Ward 4, Robert Collier faces Robert L. Deming III.

— In Ward 6, Edward “Ed” Gemmill faces Kenny Glavan, although third-place finisher Paul H. Boudreaux has asked to review the ballot box, which will occur Wednesday morning.

The winner in the Ward 3 race will face Democratic nominee and incumbent Lucy C. Denton in June.
